okay, guys! another [OT] here.

you are lucky to use killfile in your news reader ... but, what will
happen to us using google groups as news reader? well, my net provider
blocks everything but http. so, no nntp access. do you guys know any
news reader using http proxy? and better public nntp host which allow
posting too?

sorry for the OT query and please don't include me in killfile!

Never been to the Congo, but I've been to Djibouti, and one can pick up some nasty
diseases there!

Some of the news service providers (NSPs) allow nntp access on port 80,
the usual http port. Try the free news (read only, and text groups
only) site at news.readfreenews.net. I know they allow access on port 80.

You have to figure out how to specify an nonstandard port in your news
reader. It may be something like news.readfreenews.net:80 or there may
be a seperate "Port" specified in the setup. (The default is 119).

Thanks Mark.

Yes, it's a great nntp host. I used to poll news back home with
standard port. Didn't know that they have changed the port for swen
virus. Thanks for the info. Do you know any public server allows
posting too? I don't need all the ng or binary newsgroups.

thanks.

There's news.individual.net, (used to be news.dfn.de, or something like
that). You have to request an account, and I don't know if they have
nonstandard ports. You might google back thru alt.free.newservers and
see if there are any others.
