This radio looks and works like new...works off batterys or wall wart or

R8s do not work on batteries, or use a wall wart. They have a
standard AC power cord.

They can indeed operate on a battery (a deep cycle for example), or a wall wart
(provided the wall wart can put out at least 12 volts DC at 2 amps).

The R8 does not have an internal battery compartment but it can be
powered by an external 12-V battery.

Why would you run an R8 off of a wall wart? It has a built-in power
supply.

Whatever it is he has for sale, it does not sound like an R8. It
sounds like an SW8.

you mention that it runs on batteries and has a wall wart?

I have no idea what another seller may or may not do. Though I might indeed
mention that it is capable of being powered by 12 volt DC.

IAC, it's not an R8, it's an SW8. Which is what I figured, which is
why I made my original post.

Bottom line, the statements I made about the R8 series remain true.
