over 500 polio cases in, Nigeria, northern India, and Congo.
few smaller countries. (2002).
smallpox. (2002). 180 cases India, Somalia, etc.
these are the latest figures. i was in north africa in
the late 90s. heard warnings about smallpox when i was
heading home. rumors were Libya (sp?) had weapons. who
knows. Russia had tons of smallpox in the 80s, and a
possible way to introduce it. rumor has it the US has
a bit of smallpox somewhere down south. so, its around
in one form or another....

considering, neither smallpox, nor polio, were completely
"stopped". both are making a come-back over the last few
years. and, least we forget, the swine flu death's, etc.
so, don't get too excited, it's just the shrub, trying to
help the poor drug companies. (as he did in texas). scary,
huh? i think "W" and his friends are the one's that need
testing. along with anyone who falls for this BS...

Where is smallpox and polio making a comeback?

Smallpox is no longer found in the general population.

Polio is, mostly in some of the poorer countries.

According to this web site world eradication is getting close.

According to what I understand is that both polio and smallpox did hit a
lull in recent times but the trend nowadays is upward.
Maybe thats simply a matter of reporting statistics from these
under-developed countries. Remember when we didn't have cancer?

Then there's always the off chance of the 'Captain Tripps' syndrome, where
someone down at the CDC could let something out. Remote as that chance is,
it's there, nonetheless. I suppose that keeping all these nifty bugs on ice
just in case may be a good thing..
