Several years ago a group of audiophile geeks including me would often pool
together to buy an expensive piece of gear en masse (groups of 24 for example). We were able to get the stuff at cost that way - I remember buying a pair of (somewhat) exotic Spica TC60 speakers that way for $450 bucks. Perhaps we should consider that sometime - a group buy of, say, ICOM R75s, or Sat 800s. It takes nerves of steel and trust, because we have to pool the money together under one person.
