Last night, 10-10:30 pm eastern time US (0200 UTC) I was hearing a very clear signal
from the BBC on 12095. My HFCC and ILG databases say it was Skelton, UK

I'm in the southeastern US and not sure the Skelton signal would hit me. Could it be true?
I would have given this a 44334 SINPO. I was using a Tecsun PL-550 with 50 ft. random
wire.

The signal from Skelton could certainly 'hit' you. I believe that broadcast is targeted at the
Americas.

Thanks Steve.
The map thing in RLDB showed it targeted for South America, but I guess the spread got to me. It was
an awesome signal.

Geez. I didn't know until last night that I could get 12095 from Skelton.
I've heard the Ascension broadcasts before, and used them to gauge
my radios' sensitivity.

I'll check RNZI tonight on 15720.

Thanks Dan.

I was having problems getting a clear signal from RNZI last evening
between 0100 and 0300 on 15720; did anyone else run into this? Something
was broadcasting but it was RF noise, no intelligible voice or music.
Other SW stations in the vicinity were not affected.

I'm hoping it's not a longterm transmitter problem. RNZI on 15720 is a
regular stop on the dial for me after 0100 UTC. I like their National
Service relay, which occasionally offers interesting musical-theme
broadcasts (fifties or sixties music, twenties jazz, etc.). A few weeks
ago they had a call-in show from folks who remembered the Beatles' first
(and only) concert in Wellington forty years ago; interesting anecdotes.

There have been some radio blackouts two days prior and today.

I heard RNZI drop out yesterday on 15720 around 3:30 UTC if my
recollection is correct. I noticed that they were back on about an hour
later. The switch off was very sudden so I think it was transmitter
trouble and not due to a blackout.

They are S10 right now on 15720 @ 3:08 UTC just like last evening.

We've been getting a lot of X Class flares the past few days. According to
NW7US we'ce received 5 in the last day and a half. According to him there
are more on the way.
