8997 kHz?

Hi...

Heard US accent on 8997 kHz, July 15, 09:38 UTC. Didn't think much of it and
logged it. But couldn't remember hearing anything on that freq before, and
nothing in my logs either.

I am listening in Auckland, New Zealand. A web search turns up a NASA site,
talking about 8997 kHz as a secondary frequency for helicopters at McMurdo
base, Antarctica. Even though I live in Auckland, haven't heard Antarctica
before! (Haven't tried to hard either I suppose!).

Anybody else heard this, or any other options for who uses this frequency?

Mark.

Could very well be them (Antarctica), they've also used 8998 in the past.

Used to hear them quite often years ago, but then they supposedly switched to
9032 primary and then I never did hear much.

8997/8998 usually has some RTTY QRM here these days.

It would be interesting to know if they've returned to 8997.

I'm currently listening on 8997 and will do this evening local time. See if
I can hear some more...
