Franken Tops O'Reilly in Arbitrons
DEMO VICTORY: AL FRANKEN TAKES O'REILLY RADIO IN NYC MATCH-UP
Tue Jul 20 2004 15:52:21 ET AIR AMERICA's Al Franken shot past INFINITY's Bill O'Reilly in the just released ARBITRON radio rates for April thru June, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned. The Franken victory over his latest nemesis came in the ad-friendly 25-54 demo, during the 2 to 3 pm hour, the only hour when the two directly squared off in the nation's top market New York City. Franken topped O'Reilly for the book, but did experience audience erosion in May and June after AIR AMERICA's much publicized launch. Rush Limbaugh easily took top honors in all demos, ARBITRON reports, pulling in more total listeners age 12+ than Franken and O'Reilly -- combined! Developing... I continue to be amazed that we're now we're trying so despereately to find a win for Air America that we're cherry picking demos and single hours. At least you gave us the courtesy of including the 12+ numbers. I don't believe that any neo-conservative show can sustain itself against Limbaugh. We've seen it over and over and over again as stations and networks have tried to compete with Limbaugh. In New York O'Reilly is mostly a delayed feed. Often he's preempted by local hosts when he deals with time sensitive topics. I still say it's too early to declare it a success. I hope it is. But I want to see the Fall book before agreeing that WLIB is working so close to a lot of hype and a format change from ethnic music to "mainstream" talk. By it's nature, Talk is a slow build. I usually want to see 5 book trends before I feel comfortable with anyone's claim of success, regardless of their political leaning. Rich |
