A few SW Antenna Questions
To the group:
1. What is the best antenna tuner for SWL? 2. If you have a MLB (Magnetic Longwire Balun) between you antenna and lead in wire, would you still need an antenna tuner? Thank you in advance |

Thank you in advance DJB, For SWL'ing you most likely what a Pre-Selector instead of an Antenna Tuner. The MFJ-956 works reasonably well and is simple to use, small and low cost. If you have you a well planned and built SWL Antenna: Wire Antenna Element, Matching Transformer; Ground Rod; and Coax Cable. Then the use of a Pre-Selector (Antenna Tuner) will most likely depend on you Radio/Receiver. If you have a high end {quality} Receiver like the Drake R8B and others, you most likely will not require a Pre-Selector (Antenna Tuner). However, if you have a 'portable' AM/FM Shortwave Radio; then you may find that using a Pre-Selector (Antenna Tuner) can be very helpful in improving your reception. iane ~ RHF .. |
