Before I fell asleep sometime before midnight I had been listening to
1200 kHz and heard WAGE Leesburg, VA broadcasting a ballgame. There was another channel underneath but I couldn't resolve it. I woke up at 5AM and turned my Sangean back on at the top of the hour and heard WOAI's station ID and network news about the GOP convention (Cheney's nomination and Zell Miller's keynote address). Should have stuck around for local flavor but I immediately went out to the computer to email WOAI's chief engineer--maybe he'll mail me back. I don't know if 1384 miles (from my location in WNY) in the pre-dawn hours is serious DXing or not, but I think it is pretty impressive for a little handheld radio. (Some years back I heard Fort Worth from NE Ohio with this radio which was 1050+ miles). Regards, Grumpus |
