DRM From Europe In North America
Folks,
I'm getting excellent reception of the DRM signal from Deutsche Welle's DRM transmitter in Sines, Portugal in Detroit, MI on 15440 kHz at 1215 UTC using a TenTec RX-350/Butternut 80/40 Ham Vertical. If your receiver is DRM-capable and you live in the eastern U.S., this is a good "European" catch. There are a few dropouts, but the musical program is generally received quite well and the fidelity is excellent. 73, Fred E. N8UC - Detroit, MI |

It's kinda important to note that not everyone can afford a RX350,
hi. However, I understand that other receivers either can be modified or are DRM ready; for example, the TenTec RX320d has the necessary 12khz output already tapped, and I understand the recently discontinued AOR7030 can also be modified. In addition, there are several portables that can be modified, and a few from companies that, to be honest, I've never heard of that say they are DRM ready. Some of these portables are discussed somewhat on http://www.radiointel.com It might be helpful if there was a list somewhere of DRM compatible (or modifiable) receivers, but I don't know of any. Anyone? 73s Mike Fredric J. Einstein wrote: On Fri, 10 Sep 2004 23:53:59 GMT, "Ryan Wheeler" wrote: Fredric J. Both are very nice links, though I'm surprised that the HF portables
that are DRM ready mentioned on RadioIntel aren't listed. Also not listed is the RX320D from TenTec; so here's a link to describe how to make the tap: http://www.g7ltt.com/drm/rx320mods/ Nice stuff, Ian. Anyone? An excellent DRM (and not only) receiver is the WinRadio WR-G303i (no modification whatsoever required). It is also currently the only receiver which has its own (native) DRM software developed for it. See also: http://www.winradio.com/home/drm.htm http://www.winradio.com/home/g303-drm.htm http://www.winradio.com/home/g303i.htm http://www.winradio.com/home/g303i-reviews.htm Hope this helps. John |

There's a guy reporting on the forum at www.drmrx.org with a 303i and a 60 year old RCA AR-88D tube radio to which he has attached a SA612 downconverter from Sat-Service Scheider. Guess which one wins? The AR-88D achieves higher max and avg DRM SNR by ~8dB and ~6dB respectively. In one example this resulted in 99.1% vs 80.5% successfully decoded audio over a 1-hour period. He gets consistently better results with the AR-88D regardless of using a Wellbrook LA5030 loop or a long wire with either radio. http://www.drmrx.org/forum/showthrea...0504#post10504 Tom |
