162 Khz

I am not a LW DX'er but with so many reporting TA stations in the past
couple of days I thought I would give a listen.

France..... I would assume..... is putting in a good signal @ 0157 utc on
162 khz. Not just a het. Good audio.

This a real powerhouse in France (Allouis) with a very deep modulation.
Programme name is France Inter.

Thank you for posting the clip, Bill - sounds like the next few nights
might be a good time to give it a try.

I plowed the fields of longwave for several months during night hours
last fall/winter, but have yet to make my first longwave "catch" -
strong hets, nothing else - so far.

Hi again, Tony.

Just so I'm not mis-leading you that recording was made in June 2002 so
isn't representative of any present conditions. We had a super LW
opening to EU/NAf at that time, something I haven't experienced before
or since. I don't regularly tune LW and just accidentally stumbled onto
it. I copied 7-8 stations, mostly the big guns from North Africa
beaming into France.

The irony is the receiver I was using:
http://www.sparkbench.com/radiostaralbum.html

I tried all the other LW capable sets that I had in the corral at the
time and none came close to receiving what this one could. One old GE
tube set did fairly well, the others, including my whizbang solid-state
set, didn't even give a whisper of signal.

Go figure.

Good luck,
Bill

Tony,

I can't remember where you are located ?

If you are near the east coast.....TA openings on LW are common or easily
heard. For those of us more central US located it is not easy at all.

No it doesn't. The cold makes most things CONTRACT.
That's the reason days are shorter in the middle of winter!
