KA1102 vs. Sangean 606 vs. Tecsun PL230

Just wondering if anyone else has these 3 radios and what they think.
I like all 3 for different reasons but if I had to keep one it would be
the Kaito 1102. It's more sensitive than the Sangean on SW. The Tecsun is
about the same on SW but it's AM and FM is bad. There are AM stations you
can hear clearly on the Kaito that you can barely notice on the Tecsun.
The Sangean is by far the best on FM when using headphones. What I like
most about the Tecsun is that on SW it's as good as the Kaito if not
better and the speaker has better sound. Also when you save memories it
goes to the next one not in use so you don't save it over another one by
mistake. With the Kaito you have to guess. Only the Kaito has SSB and it
works very well so that's antoher reason it's the best of this group.

In summary:

AM
1- Kaito
2- Sangean
3- Tecsun

FM
1- Sangean
2- Kaito
3- Tecsun

SW
1- Tecsun
2- Kaito
3- Sangean

Features
1- Kaito
2- Tecsun
3- Sangean

Juan:

I have the Sangean 606A and a SONY AN-LP-1:
I believe this combination is * almost * unbeatable for price / features/
Portability

It's true that the 606 improves with an external antena. My comparison was
with the whip antena. Sangean radios in general seem to improve a lot with
an external antena. Still I think the Kaito is the best radio in its's
class. The Sangean 606 has been on sale for years, the Kaito is more modern
and has features that no other radio has at a price that is about $40 less
than the Sangean. If price were not a factor I would still go with the
Kaito because of it's very good SSB and cool display with lighted keys for
easy use in the dark. Not to mention battaries that recharge inside the
radio, a very good wide/narrow filter and a capacity to store 190 stations
in memory. The Sangean has none of this. The only thing I see better in the
Sangean is that the antena is not as cheap looking as the Kaito and the FM
sounds better with headphones. The 606 is still a very good radio that I
enjoy using but it's the one I keep at work now and it's probably better
for that since I listen to more FM during the day than at night.

I have the Tecsun PL230 and while it is built
rather well, the performance has been typical
of China made radios. AM BCB sensitivity
is poor to marginal and shortwave adjacent
station interference is noted. Get a good Sony
or Sangean radio instead. The Tecsun is a
waste of $$$.

I agree, that other guy either didn't have those radios or didn't know how
to judge them.

I agree... I have a DX-399, which is the same radio as the ATS 606 but with
a Radio Shack badge, and its reception capabilities improve a lot with just
a "reel" antenna. Nice sound for a small radio, and it's pretty sensitive
too.

By the way, since we're on the subject of this radio, I've got one for sale.
I picked it up for my boyfriend, but he never listened to it. It's been
sitting in its box ever since I got my KA-1102 and DE-1103. I bought it from
someone who used it a couple of times. It's in great shape, with the
original box, manual, and reel antenna. Anyone interested... reply to
buzzygirlATcomcastDOTnet. I'll take the best offer I receive by noon this
Sunday, 9/19.
