Decoy computer networks
FROM JANE'S INTELLIGENCE SERVICE:
An unprotected PC now survives only 20 minutes before being infected, a dramatic decrease from the 40-minute lifespan recorded for 2003, according to researchers at the US SANS (Systems and Networking Security) Institute, a highly regarded security educational body. Researchers use specially designed poorly protected computer networks, called ‘honey pots’ or ‘honey nets’ to watch how attackers break into computer systems, in order to learn how to protect them. |
