Anyone ever been to Ten-Tec?

My wife has been itching for us to go shopping in Gatlinburg sometime during
the next few weeks, and I know that Ten-Tec is located in Sevierville, which
is right on our way.

Is there any reason to make a side trip to Ten-Tec's facility? Do they have
a retail store there? Or better yet, an outlet store?

Yes, there's a retail store at the facility and they welcome visitors.
(they don't only sell Ten-Tec gear; they have a variety of other ham
gear & accessories)

In fact, they're having a hamfest there this weekend - Friday 3-8pm &
Saturday 9am-3pm.

I've not been there so I can't tell you how to find it.

When you're there ask them when the 350 will be updated?

Based upon what I've heard about Ten-Tec in years past they may never update it
again. They unfortunately have a habit of releasing radios, maybe having a few
updates, and then support of the radio is dropped in favour of moving on to new
projects.

That's at least what I've gleaned over the past years. Others may agree or
disagree.

I've been there. Great experience. As others have said, they sell
quite a few accesssories -- coax, antenna switches, antennas, and so
on -- along with their stock. They also have a "shack" onsite where
you can play with the radios. You can ask the sales guys any question
(and unlike most sales guys, they are knowledgeable) and if they don't
know the answer, they'll ask the designer of the radio and he may come
out and chat with you.

And for the smartasses, go ahead and ask about the '350 firmware --
you won't get a bull answer.

While you're in the shack, the sales guy leaves you alone -- I spent
hours playing with the RX-340. I eventually bought one, from them
directly.

If you need directions, call 'em and ask.

That's just about what has happened to the RX-350. Ten-Tec has not released
a firmware upgrade in over 2 years. They seem to be pretending that the
receiver doesn't exist. That's too bad as it has some amazing features.

I've heard it's pretty easy to find. There is a big statue of Dolly
Parton at the city limits. The left boob points to Dollywood and the
right boob ponts at the Ten-Tec factory.
