Yeasu VR-500 and shortwave radio
HELP....!!!
All I want is to listen to the BBC or VOA. I live in Connecticut in the USA. I bought a VR-500, as I read i could get it on this. I cant figure out how to pull in the bbc on this rig. It is small and compact and would be perfect if i can figure out how to use it. Can someone please tell me how to enter in the correct freq for the bbc? |
Darren,
First, you need to know what frequency you want to listen to. I suggest getting Monitoring Times at you local Barnes & Noble or Borders. Then look up what time it is and find the UK under that time. There will be a number of frequencies. Or go to the BBC website and look up the freqs there. Tuning the '500 is simple. Say the frequency is 11,975 Khz. (Will read as 11975). That's the equivalent of 11.975 Mhz. Simply press 1 1 . 9 7 5 and then enter. You on the frequency. If it's 11,970, then press 1 1 . 9 7 and enter. It's that simple. Do you have the narrow AM mod keyed in yet. That will *greatly* improve ALL AM reception. BTW, I was in Cape Cod recently, at the Marconi site. I listened to the BBC there with my VR-500 and the RS extendable antenna. Sort of reliving history. And I get the BBC out here in California as well on the '500. There are several excellent NG's in Yahoo dealing with this little radio. Hope this is of some help....Get in touch with me about the mod or groups if you wish...Eric KA6USJ |
