So THAT'S what they were up to!! (FCC)

A few years back, the FCC set aside (after the proper regulatory dance) a big
block of spectrum around 5.8 GHz for the "Intelligent Highway" initiative.
I remember thinking, "is there a need for this?" believing it was for cars that
would drive themselves so you could snooze wile driving to work.
Uh uh.
Here's the REAL reason:

Though the program has ominous privacy implications,
Creative Loafing reports none of the privacy-rights organizations it contacted
were aware of the government's plans.
SNIP
- Uh..
- Possibly used to put in HOV lanes, predict when road repairs wouold be
needed...
Track Rented / Tanker Trucks . . . ?

No one cares where you drive.

No one . . .

That is some really scary ass ****! If I ever buy a car with this stuff, i'd
figure out a way to disable it, either cutting off the antenna or pulling
power from a key module or whatever. Then they will create cars that wont go
into drive unless they can lock onto a network and authenticate themselves.
Just as how microsoft is working with hardware manufacturors so you can only
run code approved by microsoft on your own computer. Basically, big
companies are taking over and making consumers their slaves. No independence
or freedom as that may hurt their profit margins and make some billionione
slightly less of a billionaire. This is just another reason to start
stocking up on tinfoil.

They've been at it for at least ten years already. Not 'network' capable
as far as I know, but they DO monitor you. Unfortunately, they forgot to
mention it to the buying public, who may have NOT bought these models.
