I've been hearing traffic all local afternoon on 8983 kHz, USB, US Coast

Guard primary frequency.

Propagation is improving here in Auckland, New Zealand and I can now copy

this traffic.

Seems there is, or was a search underway, somewhere in the North-west

Pacific.

15 Oct 06:49 UTC 8983 - "Rescue 1719" reports "En-route to Anderson airforce

base" after "4.7 hours search". They were talking to another station with a

callsign something like "Martag" but couldn't quite make out what it was.

And, as I write this, hearing traffic between "Rescue 1719" and "Romeo

Charlie 318"
