SHOPPING FOR SMALL SW: NEED RECOMMENDATIONS

I'm shopping for a small SWradio. Here's what I'm looking for. I know
I probably can't get all I want. But if I could, I don't care what I
pay. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

==MUST HAVE==
Size in 3"x6"X1" range
Digital tuning with memory.
A sleep function...
Alarm clock
SNOOZE BUTTON!!!! (this has been a hard feature to find)
Runs on AA batteries.
Full SW coverage... to 30MHz
Good sensitivity and selectivity
Tone control

==WOULD LIKE==
Bass and Treble controls
I'd prefer it NOT be painted faux metalic. Stuff always wears off.
FM stereo, though headphones.
BFO
Narrow/Wide filter

Thanks for responding. The 606a looks like quite the radio. I may get
it even if it doesn't have a snooze button LOL

My 606A has a one-hour snooze function. Excellent little radio.
Superior performance.

I personally would go with the Sony 7600GR--though I should be upfront
about the fact that I have more experience with the Sony than the
Sangean, and this could bias my judgment.

I should have made a better distinction between a "snooze" button and
a timer function.

What I mean by "snooze" is a function frequently found on alarm
clocks. It's that button that delays the alarm for another few
minutes. The timer is found on most radios... essentially an auto
shut-off feature so a radio doesn't stay on all night. I take it the
606A has the latter.

Hello All.

I too have a Sangean ATS-606AP as well as the Sony ICF-7600G and GR
models. For several years, my Sangean was my travel radio. It was a
very good performer but last year I noticed that it would lose certain
frequencies I had programmed into it. At first I thought it was some
error on my part, but I have found that that was not the case. This
has gotten worse and worse. In other words, it appears that the
memories and/or tuning facilities are starting to "go" and, of course,
you really can't have one of these radios "fixed."

Therefore, this year I took one of my '7600Gs with me on vacation,
sadly "retiring" the Sangean. (I really liked its size for travel.)
Frankly, the Sony greatly outperformed the Sangean in California.

Best,

Joe

I've had mine since 1998. Other than the speaker grille starting to
pop up in one corner and the antenna screw needing a once-a-year
tightening, mines as good as new. I take it on frequent business
trips. Driving.

I agree. I have the RS version of this radio, bought two years ago
when RS made the huge mistake of dropping its own brand of SW radios.
The RS radio, known as the DX-399, came with a multiple voltage wall
wart, as well as an adapter so that it could be plugged into sockets
in the US or the EU. That feature alone made it outstanding.

It's easily my favorite digital display SW radio. Not the best, just
my favorite. I think of it the "pocket Hercules," in honor of that
weightlifter who was small in stature but huge in performance.

I don't know how my original post got separated from the thread.
Here's a repost.
