Drake R8B question

Hello,

I bought an R8B a couple of days ago. It had been powered up since then. It
is running very very cool. The Aluminium front panel is cool & above the
transformer the top cover is only warm.

If my memory serves me .....the other 2 R8B's I have owned ran much warmer
than this? Seems like I remember the front panel getting warm & the top
cover over the transformer getting warm enough to almost make the textured
paint soft.

I wonder if Drake has made any changes? The Serial # of this one is
3A12940004. I am running it off of the internal power supply.

Perhaps they just changed the type of power supply installed.

Didn't I buy one from you? Serial on that one is 3Kxxxxxxxx and it certainly
doesn't run warm.

Yes, you did. I guess I have it mixed up with the one I had a few years ago
that was a pretty early model. 98 or so. It did have the VHF converter in
it. I wonder if that had anything to do with it.

I had a '97 and it didn't run real warm either, neither does my R8. I've had a
VHF convertor installed before and didn't notice any heating issues.

The only place on the cabinet that gets warm at all is the area of the
vents over the transformer on my unit. Front panel does not get warm.

The one warm spot on top is about 2 degrees over room. If it was any
less you would not be able to tell it was warm.

The power transformer was the main reason for the cabinet and front
panel getting warm. Maybe Drake started using a more efficient
transformer which runs cooler.
