Default Listening To Satellite Beacons With Shortwave Radio

Does any one know of any Satellites that broadcast Beacons or anything
that i will be able to hear with my Shortwave Radio ? i have yet to get my
ham license so i can get started with some good tx rigs . but im dying to
hear some beacons or broadcasts perhaps from an oscar or anythig that may
be overhead. . ive got lots of tracking software and i love watching these
birds fly over my house at night .. but id love to hear them as well
any information would be helpfull especially names and frequencies..

Thx

There used to be some HF beacon a the high end of the 10Mtr ham band.
But I have no idea if ay are still active.
Do a google search for something like
+satellite +beacons +ham
I bet you will find something interesting.

Terry is talking about the RS12 satellite that had a cw beacon
somewhere around 29400 or so. The beacon was associated with a 15m/10m
repeater. It believe it was 15m up, 10m down. I haven't worked the
repeater in over 10 years and am not sure if it is still in orbit.

Some looking around seems to show that RS12 isn't available. RS15 is
available with these stats:

************************************************** *******
Radio Sport -15 (RS-15)
Uplink 145.858 to 145.898 MHz CW/USB
Downlink 29.354 to 29.394 MHz CW/USB
Beacon 29.352 MHz
Launched 26 December, 1994

Status: Semi-operational
RS-15's beacon is occasionally heard and may be quite strong at times.
At times the beacon is just a continuous carrier lasting up to 30
seconds, at other times it seems to be sending CW. There have been a
few reports of hearing CW through the passband and Al N7EQF has
reported having a CW QSO.
************************************************** *******

An also AO-7 has a 10m beacon. Here are some stats on it:

************************************************** *******
AMSAT OSCAR 7 (AO-7)
Mode B Uplink 432.125 to 432.175 MHz CW/LSB
Mode B Downlink 145.925 to 145.975 MHz CW/USB (inverting)
Mode B Beacon 145.9775 MHz (CW telemetry)
Mode A Uplink 145.850 to 145.950 MHz CW/USB
Mode A Downlink 29.40 - 29.50 MHz CW/USB (non-inverting)
Mode A Beacon 29.502 MHz (CW telemetry)
Launched 15 November 1974

Status: Semi-operational
AO-7 became non-operational in mid 1981 due to battery failure . In
2002 one of the shorted batteries became an open and now the
spacecraft is able to run off solar panels. For this reason it is not
usuable in eclipse and may not be able to supply enough power to the
transmitter to keep from frequency modulating the signal. Lately AO-7
has favored Mode B almost exclusively.
************************************************** *******
