Media Network

Group:

I'm sure long time listeners remember "Media Network" with Jonathan Marks
that was on Radio Netherlands back some time ago.

The show was fantastic for keeping everyone up to date on SW happenings. Is
there a similar show out there that is relatively up to date?

Also, I found a "Media Network Blog" online at
http://medianetwork.blogspot.com/

Any reviews on the usefulness of the blog for SW listening.

Anyone know if the BBC plans to quit short-wave transmissions in English,
and if so when?

Thanks,

Christian

Of course, officially they have - for the U.S., Canada, Australia and
En-Zed.

Would they really want to discontinue it for some third world country
where the right to relay (on a VHF-FM station which only covers the
capitol) can easily be withdrawn if there's some controversial news
reports and where the internet, which is brought in by satellite (they
have a landline phone system from the colonial reign of George VI) can
only be accessed either if you work for a big company or go to an
internet cafe or are very rich?

Lance, your best bet for up-to-date dx tips will be Glenn Hauser's World of
Radio. Glenn used contribute to Radio Netherland's pre-Jonothan Marks DX Juke
Box, which was hosted by Harry van Gelder. http://worldofradio.com/

New Radio Netherlands English Web site goes live!

We're pleased to announce that the new-look English Web site of Radio
Netherlands went live online a short time ago. We recommend reading the
article Welcome to the new Radio Netherlands website which gives some basic
information about how the site is organised. We are still working on some
design elements, but the site is fully functional. Note that on the Media
Network home page all the items listed in the various sections are clickable
links. More information in the Media Network newsletter to be sent out later
today.

If the BBC quits broadcasting in English, they will be the last ones to
do so. Most broadcasters in my experience cut out broadcasts in their
native language only when they cut all of their broadcasts.

That's a matter of cutting out a target audience, rather than an entire
language group.
