Aww, don't mind Al; he's RRS's resident Jew - hater®. Al also believes the Bible is literally true and correct. Unfortunately this is not an isolated view among Americans. I personally have a hard time taking seriously anybody who believes in the literal truth of say the account of Creation in Genesis, or the Great Flood (and Noah's Ark). Jonah wasn't literally swallowed by a whale, Moses didn't literally hit the ground with his staff and cause water to appear, the Red Sea didn't literally open up and allow the Israelites to walk across on dry land then cave in on Pharaoh's troops (despite what the movie shows). You'd think all of this would be obvious in an age of science, and that the Bible is full of metaphors and parables, but apparently not. (Tackling just one of those: the original Hebrew said Jonah was swallowed by a big fish, which was their equivalent of an American saying somebody is between a rock and a hard place; it's a figure of speech, we don't mean it literally. In Jonah's case, he was in a tough position because he was made to go and preach moral reform to a wicked city, something he didn't want to do.) "... Jonah was swallowed by a big fish..." ... A whale is not a fish. k35454. ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 100,000 Newsgroups ---= East/West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =--- |
