Yep, the Optimus speakers sound great, I use them myself but the unpowered
version. Be advised that Radio Shack is now carrying RCA brand, though I'm
told they are the same and that RCA manufactured the Optimius brand also.

Radio Shack is phasing out the RCA line. I use an older 'Minimus-2.5'
(wood box) with my R8B. Since the audio of the R8's favor the low end
(bass), it's important that the external speaker not reproduce too much
bass. Otherwise the clarity (high end) will suffer.

at this time i am using an AOR AR5000A+3 the extension speaker i am using is
an AIWA centre speaker of a surround sound speaker system the sound is
crystal clear.....look on ebay you can pic centre speakers up for a really
cheap amount. and there are all kinds of makes.
if you have a surround sound system in your home try the centre speaker if
your happy with the results then buy one to use on your receiver. and
replace your own one back with your hifi..

I think it depends. I have a pair of Radio Shack Minimus-7's that I
picked up here and there at a garage sales, and I'd use them over a lot
of the speakers that come with cheaper all in one stereos. They are my
"computer speakers" and I use them with an amplifier from a small
bookshelf
system that I paid five dollars for. But I left the speakers there, since
they most definitely were not better than the Minimus-7s.
