Casual SW listening

I'm happy with my "gray market
cheapo chino radio" and only use it for a couple hours a day, and then
not all at once so even the weird 99 minute sleep timer function doesn't
bother me.

Oh, so your just a casual shortwave broadcast listener. I rest my case.
---------

I'm not alone. Most SW listeners only listen to a handful of stations. I
imagine this is true even in places like Asia. That's why sales of
portables are better than sales of tabletops-there are far fewer hard
core DXers out there than casual listeners. FYI, I DO have a Yaesu
FRG-8800 for DXing, but since in my current living situation I have no
place for an external antenna it currently sits unused. I hope to
install a proper antenna once the house is built.

I hope you chose your land carefully. Too many places now where you can
spend money on your own land and your own home, and not be allowed to do
things like erect antennas or put up lawn gnomes... damn covenant
neighborhoods are everywhere, and are about as un-American as you can be
(don't they sound JUST like a commune??)

This area was laid out in the 1950s so no it doesn't have any covenants.
I'm not planning on putting up an Alpha Delta DX Ultra anyway, I'll
probably use the antenna kit sold by Rat Shack. And the antenna will be
facing the rear of the house, so it shouldn't be obvious from the street
(or too obvious).
