I've also got a Yupiteru MVT-7100.

I find it gets quite a few stations on HF with a $15 Radio Shaft center loaded whip antenna, but the problem is the filter is quite wide, so you might get hets from nearby frequencies.

On the bright side, the audio quality is surprisingly nice, even with the built in speaker.

It includes SSB reception.

At the time, it and the original AOR 8200 were the ones Rich Wells of strong signals was suggesting for "better" HF coverage, and my impression was he gave the Yupi the edge. Since then, the 8200 has been updated.

If you decide to go for a Yupi, it makes sense to check on the cost of new ones - it's a no gap radio, so used ones on ebay sometimes cost more than importing a new one.

Checking the Strong Signals web site for current information seems like a great idea.

I'm thinking about getting a VHF/UHF pocket scanner which also has some
HF coverage. I realize these models don't have really good HF reception
but I think it would be nice to have that feature just for fun. I'd
appreciate hearing from any of you that own one or know something about
the various brands/models.

Thanks
