Is this Brazil; Radio Nacional Da Amazonia ??? Thanx !!! -- Respectfully, Michael Location: New Jersey Primary Receiver: R-75 with full Kiwa mods Antennas: G5RV, 200ft "Frankenstein" roof wire Additional Radios: 7600GR,KA-1101,KA-1102 PL-550, KA-989, Info-Mate 837, GE-SR III Westinghouse H-104 (seven tube) Web Site: http://md_dxing.tripod.com |
Dear Michael,
You bet! Play great music, don't they? It's been coming in loud-and-clear the past few days. Believe it or not, I discovered it by accident while playing with my Lafayette HE-10(!) receiver (which I like to use every couple of months or so just to rekindle memories). Of course I had my Wellbrook ALA 330S hooked up to the Lafayette (so it wasn't "really" like "old times," but what the heck ... As soon as I identified the station (they announce "Radio Nacional do Brasilia"), I hooked the antenna back to my AOR AR7030 Plus which gave far better reception and then ran the sound through my stereo system. I'm listening to the station as I write (no music just now; male and female announcers in Portuguese). It's really fun and "magic," isn't it? Best, Joe P.S. See my next "post" about the Wellbrook ALA 330S Active Loop Antenna. |

I was using my R-75 and "Frankenstein" 200' roof wire antenna. The audio was clear and the strength was about S-7 to S-9. There was some moderate QRN at times and it had constant fast fade in/out that was bordering on being able to be described as "flutter". I checked out the Passport blue pages and it shows as Radio Nacional, Brazil, so I figured I had my ID correct They were indeed playing some great music. I'll be returning to it regularly now as long as the signal holds up :-) Thanx again !!! Michael |
Radio Nacional and Radio Nacional do Amazonia both come from Brasilia in the
heart of Brazil. They have an extensive network of less powerful stations that operate the way our "am" stations do here, in providing coverage for their people. Those stations' signals don't die at the border s and if you like hunting for stations, they provide a good challenge. "Michael" wrote in message ... "Joe Analssandrini" wrote in message ups.com... Hi Ace,
Michael heard the ID but wasn't sure what he heard. Portuguese is a little tough if you're not familiar with its "sound." Do you remember "La Voz do Occident?" (I'm sure my spelling is off.) Best, Joe |

His shadow 'beerbrain' usually follows right in step with an echo of the insults. The 'Ace has been like that since the incident with the toilet at the Army base. His Platoon collectively slammed the seat on his head while he was trying to get a drink. He's never recovered and now gets a lifelong disability at the taxpayers' expense. Michael - dxAce does sometimes come across as terse and mocking,
whether intended or not. His online persona *appears* to be slightly impatient. After awhile, you can learn to get used to it, accept it, and extract from it whatever good information there is - and there is often quite a bit. Once you get beyond the affectation, it all settles into place. Rest assured that, for most of us, your post made sense. Brasilia has been a powerhouse on 11780 now for awhile. After some years' absence, when I first restarted the radio hobby back in 2001, I was surprised by the potency of its signal compared to the mini-Brazilians I had heard in the past. Too bad RAE Bueno Aires on 11710 cannot do as well - it's signal, formerly a good one, is tough these days. Not only that, but I have noticed that especially when the solar storm levels become high and polar propagation is subdued, the tropical and trans-equatorial routes seem to be enhanced. Then, Brazil comes through even better, and the itty bitty stations from CA and SA (and Africa too) become more listenable. YMMV depending on latitude and location. Bruce Jensen |

I think it may be partially because dxAce often uses a real economy of
words. Most of the time, there is something to be said for that. Bruce Jensen |
