o Is in favour of Software/Cognitive Radio that could potentially operate on
top of Radio Amateurs without warning

o Proposes to withdraw from CB, Amateur, Maritime licensing

And you thought DRM was a DXers nightmare.

The US has demonstrated a similar lack of concern for shortwave radio
listners. I'd say we have a lot in common. I refer to broadband over
powerlines. Where I live, the apartments all come with DSL if you can
afford it, and no outdoor antennas allowed. That sure makes a mess out
of shortwave. I can't imagine what it does to an amateur trying to
communicate.

The Business Week article only mentions wasted spectrum in the TV bands, not
the SW bands. You may not be aware of this, the SW bands have much, much
less available spectrum and not nearly as well suited for short range
communications as VHF/UHF wavelengths.

It remains to be seen (tested in court) if shortwave listeners have any
right to hear foreign broadcasts, free from local interference created
by BPL. This will be determined if/when someone sues a BPL company for
interfering with shortwave reception. It will probably be a ham' (ARRL?)
not an SWL that starts this litigation process.

What's the point? This article is about the presumed waste of TV spectrum.
It doesn't mention SW at all.

SW isn't nearly as well suited for short range communications as UHF/VHF.
