That's really amazing.
But I have a problem with one thing. Where do these people get all this
money if they are that stupid? I could never figure that out...

Even if the last bidder is a shill, which isn't exactly obvious, the
bidders before him all have much more dollars than sense. $1,200 for a
used Drake SPR4 is too much. Kind of like spending $1,000 for a Sony
6800 orange dial or $3,000 for a Sony CRF320.

OTOH, if two collectors want an item that does make a market.

I've sold several of those over the years with the same crystals, NB and
calibrator and have never received anywhere near that much for one.

One thing to remember about them though, even though they are a decent enough
receiver, they were not referred to as the "Spur 4" without good reason.

Like a lot of other radios it is an average receiver that will do
reasonably well. This auction may be an example of how SWL's who use
receivers are motiviated differently than those who collect them.

About five or six years ago,you could buy a brand new Drake 4 Radio for
about $240.00.Chuck Harder www.forthepeople.org www.chuckharder.com
used to say so on his radio talk show before he went to satellite radio.
