I'm not a ham, but my interest lies in whether such an antenna would improve
reception for shortwave listening s ? ~~~~~ God gives Peace not war + "Ron Hardin" wrote in message ... Log periodic beams are ancient -- Ron Hardin On the internet, nobody knows you're a jerk. |

If you can afford to build one, have the space needed,
and nonly want to listen in one direction. If you want a LP that is rotatable, prepare to spend even more money. They are great for VHF TV, scannig, and have some utiltiy for ham radio. But for say 3~20MHz it would be HUDGE. There are better choices for HF. Terry |

If you want something that is broadband enough to cover 3-30 and as directional as a yagi, with very good directional gain, then a LP is not a "bad" choice given you have the room. B |

There is a fairly well known DX'er in western Canada who uses a rather large log-periodic antenna mounted on a big tower. His name escapes me at the moment, but I have seen some pictures of his set up. dxAce Michigan USA |

If you go to their web site, one of the antennas shown
look a whole like like a spiral antenna. Hardly new or earth shattering. I saw on back in the late 1960s. The web site shows it under a pop drink cap, I guess for RFID. It is not unusual to talk around the world on 10mtrs (28MHz), with one watt. Back in 1985 I talked with a ham in Papau New Guinea with a modified JC Penny CB converted to the 10mtr ham band. using a fairrly awful antenna, a base loaded converted CB antenna, running about 1.2Watts PEP.
