New here

Got in SWL about forty years ago, then took a long hiatus I renewed my
interest and got a general class ham license, then with the advent of
computers, I lost interest. Recently I thought about how much I enjoyed SWL.
So I did a little research on the web and bought a very inexpensive
receiver, Grundig mini 100, 'cause I sold my old ham gear..the old Kenwood
940 had a really nice general coverage receiver.
Question is where I can find some broadcasts that discuss SWL in general?
If I find this as gratifying as I did all those years ago I have my eye on a
Sony 7600.
I enjoyed reading some of the posts here, you guys are really into it and
know your stuff. Have always found newsgroups to be fairly tolerant of
newbies and their inane questions. Hope to get up to speed with all the info
I am accumulating.
Thanks...
Marc

Another good radio is a desktop, Icom R75 at $500 from Ham Radio
Outlet, complete with UTC 106 option, none other needed to make it
comparible to much more expensive radios.

The utes nowadays can be decoded with freeware software which cables
from radio speaker jack into computer soundcard. So, $500, plus an
antenna, can be all that's necessary to go first class

And chanches are you allready know Morse code (multimode/RTTY freeware
will provide the narrow bandwidth for listening to CW, not just for
decoding it). If not, freeware learning programs are available and very
SWL needs to learn copying CW by ear. Was too easy, not difficult like
touch typing for me :).

Thank you gentlemen... I appreciate your taking time to respond. I knew I
would get some good info here.
Hope to be back soon if you don't mind the ramblings of an old newbie.

Welcome!

Keep in mind that just because some of us here are crazy, that doesn't
mean we all are.

Maybe. ^_^

Anyway, good DXing!
