My old Radio
It is an old Sears LW/SW1/SW2/SW3/AM/FM Radio. On the front it says,Sears
MULTI-BAND and on the speaker grill it says,20 WAv FARER.Inside the back panel on the radio's chassis battery compartment (I don't use betteries with this radio) it says,Model NO.8277 Chassis NO.564 40050.The off/Volume control switch doesn't work properly and the seven push buttons on top (there is an eight push down button button to turn the dial light on temporairly and one of the other push down buttons on top is for BATT.CHECK) often do not lock down properly and stay locked down when they should.I often have to mess around with the push buttons on top of the radio and mess around and wiggle the off/on/volume control knob.It could be that the thin nut on the switch only needs tightened up again, but I did that recently and that didn't help much) I really like this old radio because it pulls in stations really good, especially AM stations.I can replace the off/on/volume control switch if I can locate a proper replacement switch. It is a heavy old radio,I guess it probally weighs at least twenty five pounds or more.It was in the same condition as it is now when I bought it for $4.00 at a Goodwill thrift store about five years ago,I guess that is why the previous owner donated it to the Goodwill thrift store.I was thinking someone could look my old radio up on the internet and tell me where I can buy a proper replacement on/off/volume control switch for my radio. There is a seperate little panel on the back of the radio that flips up and on the left there is a jack for an external antenna, next to that is a slide switch for ON OFF BATT.SAVER,next to that, another slide switch for,Radio,Tape Rec.Phono.next to that, another jack for,Tape Rec.Phono.next to that,Earphone. On the front of the radio at top right is a slide switch for AFC.ON.below that are five small knobs,Fine.Tun.,Squelch,Treble,Bass,and below that is the on/off/volume control switch I want to replace myself. There is a TUNE.BATT meter to the top right side of the small control knobs. There are also two large tuneing knobs near the bottom on the front panel of the radio, one is for AM,the one on the right next to that is for FM.Like I say,I really like this old radio and I want to get it in decent operating condition. The telescopic antenna is missing except for the bottom metal tube of the antenna, but I think I can locate a proper replacement antenna perhaps at a local Radio Shack store or at the Hooper Sound store on Terry Road in Jackson or I will look in my phone book. Thanks for any information and help concerning this old radio. cuhulin |

My webtv wireless keyboard has those keys and many more keys too.I just
now counted 86 keys and 10 buttons and 1 slide switch on my webtv keyboard. My webtv wireless hand held remote, which I often use (I can pull up an on screen keyboard and use my hand held remote to do the same functions as I can with my keyboard too,any webtv user will tell you that) has buttons on it for,Shopping,Power,Back,Scrolling up and down,GO,Recent,Options,Home,Search,Favorites and there are four Arrow buttons on there too, same as on my webtv keyboard and on your keyboard too.I have a few more webtv wireless hand held remotes with many more buttons than that on them and I can do many more things with them too.I can click on PIP (Picture in Picture and get tv PIP on my webtv tv screen and I can control the tv volume and change tv channels with buttons on my keyboard too.(but,I have a seperate tv set I use with my DirecTV service) My webtv isn't really stupid.I enjoy it very much. There are many other things webtv can do and does do too.I have computers, broadband and webtv.I am not missing out on anything, you are.Why don't you look around on eBay or Circuit City or Best Buy and see if you can locate yourself a webtv too.Who knows? You just might like webtv, give it a try before you knock it,it won't cost you much money. There are many folks who use webtv AND computers.Do some searches on the internet for webtv and msntv and you can read much more about webtv and msntv,,,, if you want to. cuhulin |
I really like this old radio....
I know where you're coming from. I've picked up a few of those old multiband radios at yard sales and from trash piles. They're a lot of fun to play with. Unfortunately, the only way you'll find parts for them, particular the pushbutton band selector switch, is to scavenge them from another radio. The volume control is probably a stock part from Radio Shack, Mouser, MCM, or any of the usual suspects. They're generally about 5K or 10K ohms, with or without a on-off switch as well. I had to replace the volume control on my first shortwave radio, a small multiband affair. It is a Peerless model 1444 14 transistor, 4 band radio. I modded it a little. The replacement volume control came from Radio Shack. My control really was broken, beyond any improvment that contact cleaner could provide. The radio needs a new dial cord. One of these days, I do believe I'll replace that dial cord too. |
OH,I forgot to mention, you live in canaDUH,don't you? and I remember
reading in webtv alt discussion news groups (which computers can not access behind webtv's Firewalls) that Rogers in canaDUH messed it up for canaDUHians as far as webtv is concerned in canaDUH. cuhulin |
All canaDUHians know how to do is Shoving their heads up their asses and
being COWARDS! cuhulin |
Try cleaning the band switch mechanicsm with a bit if tuner spray then
lube it ever so l;ightly (not the contacts). Get some non-lubricating tuner cleaner to clean volume controls and the like. RS no longer sells it, but a good electronics store may still have it. |

You could PROVE it if you had one. Do you enter text with a joystick or game controller? I think we all know what 'joystick' you folks in CanaDuh play with! I just now pressed my webtv wireless keyboar's Return Key to get back
here and respond here and type this posting. On my webtv wireless hand held remote control unit, the GO button in the middle of the ring of four Arrow buttons is the same function as the Return key on my webtv wireless keyboard. The Return key on my webtv keyboard and the GO button serve the same function as the Enter key on my computer keyboards and on your computer keyboard(s) too. There are adapters available for folks who want to use wired keyboards with webtv too.I think the website for those adapters is, www.omdev.com but I might be mistaken about the website, you can do a search for that. cuhulin |

Yeah,U.S.A. RULES the World. There used to be webtv available in
canaDUH,but that Rogers outfit in canaDUH screwed that up.webtv used to be available in Japan too.I don't know what happened about that though and Japan isn't a third World country either,in my opinion. cuhulin |

Yeah, but there are other people in this group that would qualify. The guy posting as GayinCanada, for instance. Unless you think that's DxAce as well. (I don't, FWIW.) |
Be very careful. Dial cords were not intended to be understood by
human beings. If you DO go ahead, draw a picture of the pulleys.... There is a rumour out there that last person to successfully restring a radio died in 1979. This is one of the easy ones, but I believe you nonetheless. Soon after I got the radio, I went over to the Library of Congress and copied the Sams Photofact for it. It was easy to do things like that back then; security is much tighter now. The Photofact has the cord stringing diagram. I have some spare cord lying around too. Thanks for writing. |
Yeah, but Sandy Berger has probaly done stold all of those drawings by
now. cuhulin |
