Jim: Don't forget that BBC Webcasts for free also. Go to
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/

No static, no fading, no bull****. Just crystal clear audio. You
can listen to Radio 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 as well as World Service.

And people wonder why shortwave is dying!

Jim

mike0219116: Good luck listening to the BBC over the internet during
the next terrorist attack, or other similar crisis. The internet was
overwhelmed on 9/11. I got most of my news that day from the radio in
my office becuase the internet was useless.

If the US government wanted to, they could cut off certain websites or
audio/video feeds during and after the next crisis. In fact, they could
conceivably cut the US off from the rest of the internet, or put a heavy
filter on it like China does. The first thing that King Whatshisface of
Nepal did after reimposing dictatorial rule was to cut off the internet
feeds to his country. He also cut the phone lines. Most Americans that
I've talked to agree that martial law in the US is only a terrorist
attack away. In the event that happens, you will see how much the US
govt can control information. No more BBC WS on XM and Sirius for David.
No more foreign audio and video feeds over the internet. Most Americans
get their news from TV, which already just reports the Bush Admin's
talking points along with a smattering of "investigative" reports to
make it appear that they're independent. In the case that the US govt
really clamps down, shortwave will become really, really important. And
all ebay auctions for SW radios will mysteriously be pulled. Get yours
now while you still can. Americans really don't know what it's like to
live under absolute military dictatorship, especially that of Bush.
They'll soon find out.
