Someone was talking about BBC transmission cut backs to north America so I checked out 5975 and 9525 just now and they are S9 with no interference, no noise or fading. They sound like a local station. Radio Australia weak on 15,515 and 13,630 with some kind of interference on the lower sideband. Radio New Zealand with a nice signal fluctuating S6 - S9 playing music, no noise or fading. BBC announced cuts in all but morning and evening broadcasts (in English) to Central and South America. Might this have to do with the closing of the Antiqua relay? This is what someone else posted. I assume that 5975 is from Antigua and 9525 is from Okeechobee, FL at least it is according to Passport. If this is true maybe the cuts are not in effect yet. I'm getting 6135 and 6005 (Africa) reliably most evenings here (about 0500 UTC and after) in addition to 5975. RA was quite good this morning on 6020 at 1200 UTC and after. There was a trucker idling down the block for a couple of nights and I think this may be my poor reception source. His parking that is illegal in this residential area and I may get him to go somewhere else if this repeats, though he was plugging in for charging and heat I noticed - given the temp I understand both. He left about 5:30 local or 1130 UTC and this cleaned up reception. Anyone know about diesel engine interference or is it probably his peripheral things? He has 3 antennas and a satt dish on this rig. But I was thinking CB and maybe satellite radio but I don't know what the latter looks like. Diesel engines use the heat of compression instead of high voltage operating spark plugs. The engine might have a DC generator instead of an alternator. The generator has brushes that spark so that could be doing it or he was operating some appliance such as a TV that was the problem. Maybe he had an inverter operating. If he comes back get the cops after him. -- Telamon Ventura, California |
