WTF is going on ??? First the R8b and now the R-75. Two of the most
popular and written about table tops are going up the spout. The
question used to be.... "Should I get a new R-75 or a used R8b ???" Soon,
the question will be... "What used table top should I get ???" Is the
NRD-545 next ???

I hope ICOM makes a replacement for the R-75.

Availability Note:
Icom has discontinued the R75. No replacement is currently planned.
Universal
Radio obtained a quantity of this model before it was
discontinued. We are pleased to be able continue to offer this excellent
radio.

I see no reason why Icom would ax the R-75 unless they have something else
to offer in the future. This is a top notch communications receiver and
it's pretty cheap new. If it's totally true and the R-75 will actually be
GONE soon, it's a tragedy for SWLers.

The R-75 is the perfect DX'ing receiver for the money and fills a need for
us. There is a big difference in taking a $1500 radio off the market
compared to a rig costing under 5 bills. It affects more people and cuts
across a wider demographic.

It looks like the cheaper radio products from China are cutting into their
profits and is partly to blame for all this. Plus a decline in popularity
due to lowered brain activity among our populace.

Indeed.... I cant fathom that Icom would get out of the marker all together.
The amount and type of sw broadcasters will always change, but there will
ALWAYS be a market for a capable and affordable sw table top.

So, the decline of shortwave radio production is somehow tied in to Bush being
re-elected?
