Homebrew RX
I had posted this elsewhere, and it has created some interesting feedback.
Based on Wes W7ZOI's Preogressive RX from the late 1980's. A wonderfully balanced design to which I added some bells and whistles I like in a receiver. These are some shots of my almost finished 1980's theme HF receiver. All stainless hardware, teflon wiring. Rock stable VFO, homebrew xtal filters ( 5/2/5/0.5), selectable and defeatable AGC, notch filter, tone control, QSK input, built in front end BP filters for each band, preselector, AM/USB/LSB/CW. Enjoy: http://www.parelectronics.com/pics/W7ZOI11%20copy.jpg http://www.parelectronics.com/pics/w7zoi13jpg.jpg http://www.parelectronics.com/pics/w7zoi14.jpg http://www.parelectronics.com/pics/w7zoi15.jpg Dale W4OP for PAR Electronics, Inc. |

Laying out the front panel and milling it had to be 6 hrs at least. Even cutting the recatngular slot in the Eddystone backplate for the S meter was hours, as I could not simply clamp it to my mill table what with the pulleys etc being riveted on. Layout of the SCAF/ AM demod board would have been a lot easier in surface mount, but would have deviated from the 1980's theme- that is one packed board Not a cost effective way to get a receiver- but then again, I got EXACTLY what I wanted. That's a thing of beauty. Must be a lot of fun to operate.

But will it pick up that daytime radio station www.forthepeople.org

Wow Dale real nice work. Imagine if some company licensed your design.. Lucky |
"Brian O" wrote in message ... All that great work and NO DIGITAL READOUT?????? :) I have pretty much zero fascination with a digital readout- that would have been the easiest part of this receiver- and would have absolutely ruined the front panel. I can resolve pretty close to 1KHz as is, allowing me to find whatever I need. Just my opinion. Dale W4OP |
I don't like digital readouts.I much prefer the good old tried and true
mechanical non digital readouts.F..K them damn digital readouts!!! cuhulin |
Don't let them damn slant eyed chinks slopes and them damn russkys see
your design. They will steal it and claim they invented it first or some crooked *******s in govt will sell your design to them. You might want to get your design patened. cuhulin |

Why do I prefer vacuum tube computer monitors and vacuum tube tv sets
and vacuum tube wooden cabinet radios and "vacuum tube" wimmins? Because I like them, that's why. cuhulin |
Why would you go to such great lengths to do a wonderful job, then cripple your design with an analog dial?? Why do people (including myself) buy self-winding watches with jeweled movements? How about old Leica cameras? It's the appreciation of a certain quality of machining. It is very easy to design a synthesized receiver that has digital readout.........I have done several of them. Now, to have a receiver that has mechanical tuning AND good accuracy. That is quite a different story. Why would Dale do such a thing? Because he wants to. Pete |
