Homebrew RX

I had posted this elsewhere, and it has created some interesting feedback.
Based on Wes W7ZOI's Preogressive RX from the late 1980's. A wonderfully
balanced design to which I added some bells and whistles I like in a
receiver.
These are some shots of my almost finished 1980's theme HF receiver.
All stainless hardware, teflon wiring. Rock stable VFO, homebrew xtal
filters ( 5/2/5/0.5), selectable and defeatable AGC, notch filter, tone
control, QSK input, built in front end BP filters for each band, preselector,
AM/USB/LSB/CW.
Enjoy:

Brian

Hi Brian,
I did not keep track- but would guess over 200. Laying out the front panel
and milling it had to be 6 hrs at least. Even cutting the recatngular slot
in the Eddystone backplate for the S meter was hours, as I could not simply
clamp it to my mill table what with the pulleys etc being riveted on.
Layout of the SCAF/ AM demod board would have been a lot easier in surface
mount, but would have deviated from the 1980's theme- that is one packed
board
Not a cost effective way to get a receiver- but then again, I got EXACTLY
what I wanted.

I have pretty much zero fascination with a digital readout- that would have
been the easiest part of this receiver- and would have absolutely ruined the
front panel. I can resolve pretty close to 1KHz as is, allowing me to find
whatever I need.
Just my opinion.

Why do people (including myself) buy self-winding watches with jeweled
movements? How about old Leica cameras?
It's the appreciation of a certain quality of machining. It is very easy to
design a synthesized receiver that has digital readout.........I have done
several of them. Now, to have a receiver that has mechanical tuning AND good
accuracy. That is quite a different story. Why would Dale do such a thing?
Because he wants to.

Pete

cripple? A dial accuracy to 1kHz is far from crippling. In fact I would say
Dale is exceptionally skilled at achieving that accuracy.

my name isn't David. That name is getting a bad reputation in this news
