two very stupid collectors in a bidding war !!!!!!

collectors with more money than brains. if you are going to bid top
dollar, at least make sure you get the original box and all the
contents, not just the radio. I don't know how such stupid people
survive in our society ?

Perhaps they know more than you do.

Such as from URL: http://antiqueradio.org/zenithr7000-2.htm

The R-7000 remains a favorite of collectors, however. Produced in small
numbers for only three years, it is one of the scarcest TransOceanics. Only
75,000 in total were produced, as compared to several hundred thousand of
the tube models. Moreover, as the last of its line, the R-7000 has an appeal
similar to the first TransOceanic, the 7G605 Clipper, for anyone wishing to
fill out a TransOceanic collection. Most importantly, it's an excellent
portable multi-band receiver, with features and performance that reflect
Zenith's three decades of TransOceanic development

Original price: $379.95 from 1979-1981

Besides what do you care how folks spend their money ?

I doubt, therefore I might be !

the R-7000 was a piece of ****, and 75,000 means it is quite common,
when you get down to 600 produced, then talk to me about rare

The last 2 posts I saw from you referred to "kill" and "hate".
Now you're griping because some guys want to spend their own money
on something *they* want.
I can't help but wonder if you find other things to condemn... not just
items in this group. I bet you complain about nearly everything around you.
Too bad the world isn't like *you* deem it should be. Too bad a couple
of guys are having a blast trying to buy that latest "toy". When was the last
time you told someone you loved them? Smiled just because you felt happy?
Slowed down to let someone merge into traffic?
How come I think you're the guy who speeds up so they *can't* get in.

I believe it was made in Chicago, the last portable radio to be made in
the US. After that, Zenith just made TVs in the American plant, but
those were shut down too (about a decade later, I believe) and
production shifted to Asia. Today, Zenith is just a name to be rented
out, like the rest of them.

Original price: $379.95 from 1979-1981

Ouch! No wonder so few were made. Remember that inflation was 13% at the
time, and unemployment was 10% (high for America). I doubt few people
had the means to purchase one. And if they did, they probably went for a
color TV instead (about the same price).

Besides what do you care how folks spend their money ?

Remember that collectors have very different motives for wanting a
certain item than users. This radio wouldn't be much good to a daily
user, a Degen 1102 would be better than this. But there are people who
collect just TOs, and to them it would be worth a lot. I think that ebay
has really helped the collector markets, but to the detriment of people
looking for a good deal. You can't find a "steal" anymore, anywhere, and
it's because of ebay. Now everybody can see how much a certain item will
bring and price it accordingly.

No we can't. It's been a problem with mankind from the beginning. Why you
ask? Well because. Now don't argue with me! You know I think I'm right and
therefore you can not win ;)

P.S. I learned all this from my wife and by the way, did you know that the
military is now using these same type of techniques that they learned from
their wives to frustrate the f--k out of the enemy?

It isn't. Some people just think they need to set prices for
everyone else.

Oh, call me a purist, but this is just a waste of bandwidth for the

what people pay on eBay. That place has degenerated into rip-off city
anyway, LOL.
