Sony ICF-SW7600GR in Canada?

Can anyone point me in the direction of a retailer in Canada that sells the
ICF-SW7600GR, perferably for a decent price? If not, who is the best to
order from in the USA for shipping here?

This no-prices-online policy for Sony is driving me nuts.

FireStarter5 March 25th 05 03:28 PM

Sonystyle.ca lists it for $329.99 Wow!

I can't see an authorized retailer selling it for much less. I doubt they
would even knock the $30 of the price to make it even.

Sonystyle.com has it for $159.95

With the current exchange factored in plus Prov. and GST, the price should
be around $225 CDN (not including massive Sony mark-up and S&H)

SOmeone was selling it, but I can't remember who. Go to the Radio Amateur's
of Canada website at http://www.rac.ca and look under the list of dealers,
specifically http://www.rac.ca/opsinfo/dealers.htm I'm sure when I checked
it was Durham Radio, Com-West or Radioworld. It was just under $300.
I've never dealt with any of the companies, just know that one of them
did list the receiver.

Radioworld is great. I bought a Drake R8B from there and was very happy with
the service.

Unfortunately, people here got accustomed to paying outrageous prices in
Canadian dollars back when the Canadian dollar was $0.60 US. Now that it's
around $0.81 or so, they still pay those same outrageous prices. Slowly,
internet and mail order eats into the local market, and eventually the
prices come down.

Thanks RHF. By the way, Amazon does not ship anything except books to
Canada.

Apparently Amazon will only ship books to Canada. This on top of Canada
turning back all Liypn's radio shipments in order to satisfy the greed
of Kaito Canada. It seems that the Canadian government is quite willing
to act to preserve massive profits being made off Canadians by foreign
(American and otherwise) companies. The American conservatives here
always laugh at Canada for being liberal, but when it comes to the
almighty dollar the Canadian government at least is just as conservative
as America. Plus the Canadian government probably gets massive tax
revenue off all imported goods sold in Canada, and they're loath to
disrupt the racket. My recommendation to Canucks: rent a post office box
in America and use that to get all your goodies at American prices.

Dear Conan Ford,

Last week the Shortwavestore.com (a Canadian company) had them. I tried
to go onto their web site today to get the URL for you, but when I did
so, Durham Radio came up. Did they take over the ShortwaveStore? You
might try telephoning Durham to see if they have (or can get) one for
you at a reasonable price. They do not list the '7600 on their web
site.

Another US dealer who sells the '7600 is J&R Music World in NY, an
extremely reputable company with which I have dealt for many years. You
might want to telephone them also.

In my opinion, the Sony ICF-SW7600GR is the best small portable SW
radio currently being made. Note that it is made in JAPAN, not China.

Best,

Joe

Shortwavestore.com has always been owned by Durham Radio. They just
stopped bothering with the Canadian side of the site and redirected it to
durhamradio.com. I found this out about a year ago by running a whois
query on both of them when I noticed the prices on the Canadian
Shortwavestore.com (then a separate site) and durhamradio.com were
identical.

Dear "Conan Ford,"

According to Radioworld.ca, Sony Canada no longer supplies the 7600GR.

If that's the case, try Universal Radio, AES, or J&R Music World in the
US. All have web sites, though I believe you have to actually order the
ICF-SW7600GR via telephone. (That may not be true for J&R - they may
offer internet purchase; you'll have to check.)

These companies are reputable; I have dealt with all for many years.
Note that AES has always had the AN-LP1 antenna in stock whenever I've
wanted one (I have five!) and you may want to consider buying one for
your radio. The combination offers extremely good performance and,
incidentally, "travels" well on vacations, and so forth.

Best,

Joe

try your local Sony sto they might not keep them in stock, but they
can order one in for you. I bought mine at a sony store, and it is an
excellent little radio.
