Passport Required To Re-Enter U.S.

4/5/2005 11:00 PM
(WROC-TV)

Better have a passport the next time you plan to go to Canada, it'll soon be
the law.

The Departments of State and Homeland Security announced the "Western
Hemisphere Travel Initiative" today. It will require all U.S. citizens,
Canadians, Mexicans, and citizens of Bermuda to have a passport to enter or
re-enter the U.S.

Currently Americans only have to show their driver's license or another
government approved ID.

The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act passed last December by
Congress mandates this change.

Assistant Secretary Of State Maura Harty says, "The Western Hemisphere
Travel Initiative is an important step in protecting homeland security and
DHS and the State Department will use all available resources to implement
this travel initiative by the deadline set forth in law."

Americans will have to display documentation to get back into the U.S., if
traveling by land or sea, by the end of 2005. That expands to all travel to
the U.S. by 2006.

Reciprocity will be in effect. You will have to have one to enter Canada
also and I assume the other countries also. But they are also going to
have a "smart card" system, where frequent travellers can get a card that
will allow for quick passage. It will contain a biometric indicator or
two. So it'll be Gestapo and 1984 type tactics depending on whether yopt
to pay another fee to get the new card thing.

Most every country in the world requires a passport as far as I know. Not much
of a big deal.

Then again, if something were to happen many of the left-wingers would be
screaming even harder about why border security was not tightened.

I just love how they use the 'buzzwords' of NAZI and GESTAPO... they, as usual,
haven't a damn frickin clue... and hopefully like the NAZI's and the GESTAPO,
they will wind up in the dust bin of history.

C'mon folks.. you have known me long enough to know that I am a long ways
from a Left Wingnut (or a Right Wingnut for that matter). This is a
restriction on OUR travel as much as it is for others. We've had open
borders with our neighbors for over a century. This will restrict tourism,
commerce and other things vital to our economy. Do we really want to lose
the right to travel freely between us and our neighboring countries, along
with billions of tourist dollars, just for a bit of security that won't even
be there? Think about it folks.. criminals don't give a damn what the law
is, they just go around it. If someone wants to get in to do us harm,
they'll find a way to do it without going through a checkpoint.. just like
background checks for gun sales doesn't even slow down a criminal who wants
a gun... how many of them do you suppose even buys a gun?

We Don't lose the right to travel freely..
Trave anywhere you want..
Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia , North Korea
( joke here.. )

just needing a U.S Passport to get in

Burr April 9th 05 01:48 AM

Hi Brinda,
This I have to go along with, we have to close our borbers.

Most every country in the world require that I have a passport and some
require a visa to get into and out of.

Today I spent $75 on my wifes Philippine passport and it is going to
cost me $1,000 plus Atty fees (if I use one) to get her a Green Card the
15th. My wife refuses to be "out of satatus" one day even if we are planing
to relocate to the Philippines asap.

So, if I have to show my passport every time I return to the USA then
everyone should. If I have pay all the fees I have to pay for a passport
then everyone should, I don't want to be treated better, I just want
everyone treated the same.

Be glad you don't have to pay the "kick backs" I have to pay to get a
work permit in the countries I going to, work permits or just a way to get
more money and kick backs for the sorry A Hold's that take care of you. As
an American I hate to have to payoff some SOB just to work in his country
trying to help them.

Just for the hell of it look at Indonesia, they were given aid based on
the number of dead and hurt and now they are cutting the number by 60 %.
They also forced the workers who were helping to buy "work permits"!!!!

Think about what I am saying, we are giving the world a free ride and
they stick it to us every chance they get!!!!

Soon we will have an "internal passport" that you will be required to
show just to go from one end of town to the other, or go from one metro
area to another, or between states. In Russia they're reintroducing the
internal passport system of the Soviet years in order to stop terrorism.
Osama must love the west, one or two big attacks and we're flailing
around destroying ourselves and all we hold dear just for a false sense
of security. Whatever happened to the home of the free? It's now the
home of the scared, people willing to give their freedoms in the hopes
of being protected from the Big Bad Terrorists. The problem is that
there are always holes, even if you have 100% security and a total
police state you can't stop a determined terrorist. All it does is makes
slaves of law abiding people. But people don't seem to care, they'd
rather be in prison camps because the camp represents security.
Unfortunately, the terrorists can cut the fences, while the people
inside can't.

To create a situation of civil unrest that can justify martial

point that people can't think for themselves or compete against the
elite or against the educated workforce in places like China and India,
then forcing these uneducated people to compete against the uneducated
people of other countries (especially Mexico) who come to America
seeking the good life that the American elite portray in widely
disseminated Hollywood propaganda? Forget la reconquista, most Mexicans
are interested in la vida loca, and think that they can get it in
America. Instead they face grueling work for two dollars an hour, living
in shanties just like back home, and they have to compete against
Americans for the same work, and when they want to go back they can't.
So they become a permanent underclass, just like ghetto blacks and
everyday whites. America is looking more and more like a Third World
country, with a small, parasitic elite on top and a mass of faceless,
interchangeable slaves at the bottom. Whites can be just as ignorant as
any black or brown person. Stupidity knows no color, unfortunately. And
add to this the cutting off of uncontrollable media (shortwave radio) in
favor of satellite based media controlled by one big company. Since
George W. Bush has taken office, the BBC and DW have ended transmissions
to North America, and many other stations have been taken off the air.
People are increasingly getting their info from satellite radio and TV,
a medium that is highly controlled by one big corporation. Flip a switch
and no more BBC news, no more anything that doesn't agree with Bush's
bottom line. Iran offered to take a blank spot on one of these systems
and were turned down because they were peddling "intellectual
terrorism". It all adds up to a country of people who not only don't
know their own history but whose only concern is drugs and sex and fast
food. Such people are like little kids to the elite, they are so easily
led to do anything one would want them to.

Actually, what I was trying to impart was that there is little point in
controlling the legal border crossings of citizens from Canada, the U.S.
and Mexico if the illegal border crossings continue unchecked. Especially
if the control is being done under the guise of "Homeland Security".

When the U.S. creates such a situation (as with mandatory passports), one
needs to look for the true purpose for such ludicrous measures.

Something is afoot. I suspect that part of it is a looming draft in this
country, and the authorities fear an exodus of people to Canada. The
irony is that Canada, in a departure from its otherwise liberal policies,
won't want the people trying to flee the U.S., yet the same people that
wish to refuse the U.S. citizens entry into Canada likely are the ones
condemning the U.S. for not allowing Mexicans into the U.S.

Remember, we still have many nations to conquer, and a nation of dumbed
down unskilled people that are out of work and money is ripe for the
plucking.

An article that I saw within the last couple of days says that the
pentagon is beginning to believe that China is a military threat, yet we
continue to finance China by buying virtually everything that we sell at
retail level.

Something very bad is afoot.

anything that doesn't agree with Bush's bottom line. Iran offered to
take a blank spot on one of these systems and were turned down because
they were peddling "intellectual terrorism". It all adds up to a
country of people who not only don't know their own history but whose
only concern is drugs and sex and fast food. Such people are like
little kids to the elite, they are so easily led to do anything one
would want them to.

Passport Required To Re-Enter U.S.

4/5/2005 11:00 PM
(WROC-TV)

Better have a passport the next time you plan to go to Canada, it'll soon

be
the law.

The Departments of State and Homeland Security announced the "Western
Hemisphere Travel Initiative" today. It will require all U.S. citizens,
Canadians, Mexicans, and citizens of Bermuda to have a passport to enter

or
re-enter the U.S.

Currently Americans only have to show their driver's license or another
government approved ID.

The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act passed last December

by
Congress mandates this change.

That expands to all travel

to
the U.S. by 2006.

BAD,

Your 'personal' Travel got "Restricted" when you Volunteered to get
a State Driver's License (DL) or Personal Identity Card and 'you'
freely "Surrender" the DL (Show It) everytime a Law Enforcement
Officer asks for it as Proof of 'your' Identity within the USA.
.
Or, when you use the DL as a 'form' of Identification for Domestic
Travel within the USA to-board an Airplane, Bus or Train.
.
Also everytime you use your DL as Proof of Identity when you Use a
Credit Card or Write-a-Check at a local store or bank within the USA.

WE HAVE YOUR NAME AND NUMBER... AND VERY SOON WE WILL HAVE YOU !

So, RHF...can I take it you don't have a driver's license? I have a passing
familiarity with what I believe to be the reasoning behind your argument;
how well does it go over when you fight your traffic tickets in court? Or
does this off topic post (which you didn't identify as such in the Subject
line) have some other more obscure reasoning behind it?

I lived in Bozeman,Montana in 1956.We took a little trip to canaDUH as
far North as Cardston,Alberta, canaDUH.I remember at the canaDUHian
checkpoint, the RCMF dude put a little wire with a lead seal thingy on my
dads handgun so that his handgun couldn't be fired without first
removing that seal.Coming back from canaDUH,my dads handgun was checked
out again by a RCMF on the canaDUHian side of the border. As soon as we
got back in good old U.S.A.my dad took that stupid wire and lead seal
off of his handgun and threw it away.

In U.S.A.driving a vehicle is a Privaledge,it is NOT a Right.The Signs
on the roads, the Rules of the Road are there for a Reason.I have had
three tickets before, speeding, crossing a yellow line and parking by a
water hydrant.I have been driving for forty eight years and I have never
been in an accident before and I have never caused any accidents either.

That's one way to put it.
.
[ Most would say about your reply - Don't Feed The Jack Asses :]

.
Are you saying that they would be telling me not to reply to you?
Or that I'm the jack ass, and that you shouldn't be replying to me?

-R- What Other May Suggest to You . . .
Yes I have a California Driver's License
[ I Am Who I Am - Hey, That's Me ! ]
Knowing What I Know about Our Society and Legal System ;
and then Freely Making "The Personal Choice" To Do So !

.
Then clearly you don't understand what I was driving at.
So the issue is moot. You seemed to be one of those people
(and I knew one once) that feel you don't need a license to drive
legally.
They lose in court.
.
-R- I Do "Choose" to Have a Drivers License
and I Do Carry the DL on 'my' Person
and I Do Present the DL when Requied [.]

Fair enough. ;)

Traffic and Parking Tickets ? What Are They ?
As a "Good US Citizen" 'i' Obey The Law :-}

.
If you drive on a regular basis, and have done so for an appreciable
length
of time, I'd damned near be willing to bet my life (contingent upon the

wager being for something of equal value) that you've broken the law on

several occasions. You've never signaled a few feet too short of the
legal
requirements for a turn at an intersection? You've never driven with a
light
out? It doesn't matter whether you knew it or not; it's an infraction.
You've never exceeded the legal limit? And while observing the legal
limit
you're never blocked faster traffic that was behind you in the passing
lane?
.
On the other hand, if that remark was purely meant to be tongue in
cheek,
ignore all of the above. ;)
.
-R- Notice the small 'i' in my post.
While "I" may in-good-faith "Intend" to Obey the Law;
'i' may in-practice by happenstance break the law.

There! See what that unconventional grammatical style and off the wall
punctuation gets you? How am I supposed to know the difference between
definitions of a capital I and a lower-case one when you write? Argh[.]

FWIW - Most of 'us' on average
simply fail to get caught when
'we' unintensionally break the law ;-)

I was going to make that point myself when I thought you were saying you
never broke the law.

Although I'm certain that you only obey
what you feel are "just" laws, correct?
.
-R- The Law -IS- The Law [.]
Now... That - There Ought To Be A Law !

Actually, I was hoping that you would say you only obey just laws. I'll even
give you the benefit of the doubt on that one. ;)

FWIW - For 'me' Life is Simple :
To OBEY "The Law" -and- To BE a "Good Citizen"

Again, hoping that you don't obey blindly.

BAD - Did Not Mark 'her original' Post as Off-Topic (OT)
and my Reply with a 'modified' Subject Line was not marked (OT).
I would Note that 'you' yourself did not mark your Reply as (OT)

.
That's because I very rarely change thread titles or subjects. I try to

follow convention for the sake of other people's reading enjoyment, and

allow the thread to flow along as a single entity that can be easily
filtered or ignored. What you do is essentially evade killfiles. Anyone

using Outlook and the "ignore conversation" feature is still subject to
the
thread.
.
-R- Most Readers of this NewsGroup that choose have 'my'
Screen Name and/or eMail Address in Their KillFiles.
So "They" Do NOT Have To Read 'me'.
However, if you post after 'me' then 'you' may be exposing
them to some of 'my' posts and as such the admonition :
"Please Don't Feed the Jack Ass !" C'est Moi !

It wouldn't matter either way. They either read my replies to you in the
original thread, or they'll read them to you in the new thread. There's no
point to making a new thread...that's my point.

That's also where the "ignore conversation" filter may come in handy. Not
that I ever use it anyway. And I think that particular horse is dead by now.

Good grief, Brenda. Ever been to Europe? Better have that passport handy.
