Pansonic RF-2200 Info--at Yahoo groups

Hi: I have this radio.

I bought it at a thift shop in Florida a few years ago.

The FM sounds great, nice big front knob, fantastic spread dial, but the
AM need repair.

Do you know where I could take it? And I notice that Grundig came out
with a radio with a simular face patern like this one.

Similar but not the same. The quality of the Panasonic is great, the
Grundig(Chinese) is not.
What type of problem are you having with the radio on AM? Is the problem on
the AM broadcast band only or also on the shortwave bands? Most of the
problems with lack of reception on either or all AM reception, is with the
Band Switches. Using a good contact cleaner such as DeOxit will usually
cure the problem. I've heard of a lot of problems such as this with the
Panasonic radios of that era and some of their TV tuner contacts as well,
and above is the solution. "Apparently" they are made from a material that
is prone to oxidation.

I own a Panasonic Model No.RF-2600 AM/FM/Shortwave Radio that I bought
new at a Service Merchandise store here in Jackson about twenty
something years ago.(the radio isn't anything to bragg about,in my
opinion.I own some old beat up off the wall brand name AM/FM/Shortwave
radios that are similar to the Panasonic that I bought for only a few
dollars each at thrift stores and some of them pick up radio stations
better than my Panasonic radio.(I think I wasted about $164.00 on that!
Panasonic radio) Really though,I never have seen any Panasonic radios
that ever amounted to much of anything,IN MY OPINION) A few years
later, when I flipped the toggle switch to ON,the radio got to where it
wouldn't do anything at all. There is a little earphone jack on the
bottom left hand side on the front of the radio and I have never used
that earphone jack or any of the other jacks on that radio at all.I
noticed if I put my my finger on that earphone jack and wiggle it a
little bit,the radio would turn on and it would sometimes work for a
little while.I got a straight pin and I wedged the pin between the ear
phone jack and the edge of the plastic opening where the ear phone jack
is and the radio will work ok.If Panasonic can't build radios better
than that,I will never buy a Panasonic radio ever again.
