CBC has done better than this, As It Happens has been on the air for 20
some years, and I did prefer Alan Maitland and Michael Enright, but
times change. Give them a chance for a few weeks, it's impossible for
every item to entertain every listener, every night. Still love it, tho.
Who I sorely miss are Peter Gzowski and Vicky Gabereaux, whose programs
I based my day around for many happy years.

I preferred Gabereaux on the radio. She's one smart cookie. Gzowski? He should
be nominated for broadcast sainthood. Now, one of them is dead and the other's
on TV. I wonder if they talk...

I guess I'm one of those old geezers who hate change. I've always liked the
show, and the theme music. My only complaint is that CBC doesn't
rebroadcast the show after midnight. I work the night shift, and would
appreciate listening to As It Happens in the wee hours.

Getting tired of Coast to Coast.

It's almost as awful as that NPR atrocity called "Fresh Air" (mind you,
I said ALMOST...Fresh Air easily one of the worst things going on
radio). Barbara Budd or Mary Lou Finlay, who host "As It Happens",
should be shifted to janitorial duty at the CBC. Both have horrible,
grating voices, with irritating personalities to match. The "humor" on
the program is patently un-funny, and the lame human interest stories
are an utter waste of time. CBC can do better than this.

The only one I've found close to Gzowski is Phillip Adams on LNL (late night
live) on Radio Australia. You are right, he's a saint. Vicky was much
better on radio than TV.

The show has been on for probably 30 years and is among the most popular CBC
productions.
