Possible Record Price for Drake R7
Some of you may be bidding on this, but for
those who haven't seen this yet, this is headed for what I believe will be an absolute record price for a Drkae R7 -- incredible: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=5771495401 |

Seems to me that in the last year or so R7's were selling for $800 or so let's say and R7A's commanded the over $1000 price. I did see an ad on rec.radio.swap for some Drake gear which included an R7 so I emailed the guy and he told me he was asking $1195 for it with 3 filters and the NB, which I considered to be over priced. Guess we'll see in another day or so if this particular one sells outright or whether he might approach the high bidder. dxAce Michigan USA |

What modifications or options does your R7 have in it? -- Telamon Ventura, California |

I never would have pulled Northern Cyprus in on 6150 without it. What filters do you use in the R7 for AM and SSB reception? I have the 8, 6, 4, 3 and 2,3 kHz filters in it. What modifications or options does your R7 have in it? No mods, but does have the NB and the above filters. dxAce Michigan USA |

Sorry to be pest but do you know what center frequency these filters operate on? The R8 and R8B are around 50 KHz and if they are Drake stock filters I was wondering if they were also low frequency IF filters or something higher? I was also wondering if you found the noise blanker to be effective but you are in a fairly low noise area so I suspect you don't know. -- Telamon Ventura, California |

All are Drake except the 3 kHz filter which is from Sherwood Engineering though I'm certain he had those made up by someone else. Sorry to be pest but do you know what center frequency these filters operate on? They are centered around 5.695 MHz or so as I recall. I was also wondering if you found the noise blanker to be effective but you are in a fairly low noise area so I suspect you don't know. The noise blanker is effective, though I rarely have to use it. Generally the S meters sit on S1 or below here during the day, even with several hundred feet of wire connected to the receivers. If it goes up, I pick up the phone and call the local Board of Public Works. dxAce Michigan USA |

The humidity allows the salt to become ions in the surface moisture and the insulator leakage goes up and generates noise. The only damn salt around here is what maybe happens to go on the roads in the winter. Oh yes, the R8 series does not use crystal filters of course but rather L/C networks... The R7 uses crystal filters. That is sometimes given as a reason for the R8 audio sounding better. The 1A, and I think the 2 series and everything pretty much up to the R4C used L/C networks rather than crystal filters. dxAce Michigan USA |

Well, I really thought this was going to fetch above $2K -- will
just have to sit on my R7A for a while longer! |
