We will sadly never have any president of the calibar and of the values

real American values, the original American values which has been

Unfortunately, I have to agree. The American magazine Newsweek has a
feature this week in its US edition about George Washington, who would
be outraged at the "entangling alliances with foreign powers" that we
have gotten ourselves into.

Entangling alliances my ass. Who asked the US to go to Iraq or don't you
count that one? Some nations were bullied into that one. When you make a
state do something, or else, you can call it more than a few things but
"alliance" isn't one of them. Still other nations were coerced into
promising they would never hand any American over to the ICC. They only did
that after Bush pulled out of the court and couldn't get nations to enter
into private treaties that would assure the US this or that nation would
fork any American over to the court. On more than a few occasions, the US
seems to think they should get special treatment, as a superpower. They
wouldn't have a clue about superpowers in 1776. But they certainly
understood the British Empire. It was their bullying and overall attitude
that caused the American Revolution.
You have filibusters because the Bush White House wants to ram through
nominations that will see the religious fundamentalists have their way, who
the hell cares about the separation of church and state. Which is pretty
bizarre given the fact that those Mayflower passengers fled because the
state had it's nose in their religion. Now Bush wants to get religion back
into prominence in state affairs.
If Washington would be doing anything, he'd be rolling his grave about what
Bush is doing to America. Then again, he probably has been doing that
already. It's a safe bet that the right to bear arms didn't mean yahoos
could equip themselves with the sort of firearms Americans have been getting
their hands on.
Washington was not brilliant by any means,
but he knew how to lead warring factions and knock heads to get things
done if need be. Washington didn't pander to anybody, a skill that's
badly needed today.

Uh huh. Gimme a break. The US isn't pandering to anybody, they're too busy
bullying and acting as the self appointed police for the world.

He would see the us playing the role of the British in
Iraq, and march down to the White House to knock some sense into the
current George who's occupying that building. If we had those men around
today, America would be great again. Jefferson would be urging the
American public to rebel against Bush-literally, by taking up arms and
forcibly removing him from power.

Instead he was re-elected, no iffy parts to his getting his second term,
except for the way Bush's fanatics m,ade sure John Kerry never got elected,
all that Swift Boats crap that came out of Texas. But you're right,
Washington would probably try to knocke sense into GWBush. What good would
it do though? America took him back, and he's been even more in your face
about ramming his agenda in everyones face. Under him, America is now like
the Empire Washington sought to get out of.
It's more than a little ironic too. Kerry is a Bostonian. I'm not even
American but I got the sense of history and the American Revolution that
Boston exudes. Instead of that, America got a man who got out of going to
Vietnam and apparently even fulfilling National Guard duty. I don't think
Washington would ever have asked citizens to do something he was unwilling
to do, go to war and maybe even give his life. Then there's that whole myth
about George Washington's truthfullness and the chopping down of a cherry
tree. It's a myth but it's not the kind of myth anyone can expect to see
grow around Bush.
