My neighbor's new air conditioner...

My neighbor has a new air conditioner and it's the source of some
serious rfi. Has anyone ever worked to "cure" an air conditioner of
this problem? If I give my neighbor some ferrites, will that
suffice--or is my only option to pray for cooler weather?

We bought a new window AC that has an "electronic" thermostat.
Major PITA. Depending on how far away from your antenna it is,
ferrites can help a great deal. Along with ferrites, I had to open it
up and add bypass caps all over the place. They can be quitened,
but it isn't going to be easy. AS more and more simple tasks are
given CPUs to control them, the noise floor is always going up.
A sad fact of life. The ony good thing is our new Panasonic is smart
enough to know when the lights dipped during a compression cycle
and will wait ~15 minutes before allowing the compressor to cycle.

It's a kind of intermittant buzz that keeps perfect time with the
rhythm of the air conditioner's motor.

My old Dearborn (brand name) 18,000 BTU (it's probally more like half a
BTU nowdays) window unit airconditioner is over thirty years old and it
is on it's last leggs,so to speak. The cooler the weather is,the better
it works. Two articles at www.drudgereport.com about broadband over
powerlines. One of the articles didn't work for me,but that is the way it
sometimes is at drudgereport.com Sometimes have to wait a while or look
up the title of the article(s) at a search engine. How will broadband
over powerlines affect Shortwave Radio? I don't think it will be good.

I bet it's some kind of SCR/Triac switch or something. Why do they
bother putting Part 15 warnings on stuff if they don't enforce the
rules?

The communist Chinese were caught forging UL/CSA Standards stickers a while
back. Some people in our government agencies must have made a lot of under the
table money.
