All India Radio to vacate 90 metre shortwave band

Friday, July 15, 2005

The website DXAsia reports that All India Radio is going to vacate the 90
metre band altogether in favour of 60 metre band for domestic shortwave
services. This means Shimla on 3223kHz, Bhopal on 3315kHz, Delhi on 3365kHz
and Gangtok on 3390kHz will soon move onto the 60 metre band. It is expected
that there will be some adjustments on the present 60 metre band usage by
All India Radio.

I sure wish AIR would send my Gangtok QSL. Guess it's time for a f/up report.

So what would be my best shot at hearing one of these (time and frequency)
on the east coast of North America before they vacate 90 metres ?

Thanks

John

December and January... propagation permitting, is generally the low-band
sub-continental season. Look for them just before and after sunrise.

And it's generally best to try and listen every day because sure enough, if you
skip a day, you'll later find out that that day was the best opening of the
season!

It just seems to work that way.

I'm not sure however just when they plan to vacate 90 metres, so there may not
even be a 2005-2006 season.
