Yes, satellite radio is off topic for a shortwave group, but then

the heck does Winston Churchill's opinion of Muslims have to do with
shortwave? It's certainly further off topic than is satellite radio.
And how about the recent thread on British police? Geez, it's the
boundlessly idiotic threads like these which seem to attract more
response than manure attracts flies. With all the mindless and usually
ill-informed political ranting on this group, a question about
satellite radio doesn't seem too great a transgression. Sure,
there's an alt.radio.satellite group for the satellite radio
enthusiasts, just as there's probably a multitude of
alt.politics.idiots groups for the more pervasive type of off-topic
postings to be found in rec.radio.shortwave.

Remember Hal Turner, who used to say something to the effect of " I
have a show broadcast on shortwave, so anything I talk about is on
topic".
That's almost as bad as people believing they are "real" shortwave
listeners just because they don't listen to a portable.
What a hobby.

If enough people are interested, I'll start reading up
on news.groups about what I need to do to get a
formal RFD together for the creation.

--Mike L.

Yes please can you do that Mike, it would be most appreciated.

alt.radio.satellite

I don't know if it still holds true, but it used to be
that alt.* didn't have the formality or the server
penetration that the Big 8 did. Plus, you can get
overwhelmed by what's out there on alt.* as well.
Seems like everyone and their grandmother has
created a ng on alt.* at one time or another.

Well, it's certainly a place for them to start!

Then do we want to eschew the creation of
rec.radio.satellite in favor of telling people to
try alt.radio.satellite?? And just have the
rec.radio.shortwave charter amended to
restrict the definition of on topic postings
to LW, MW and SW??

--Mike L.

That sounds good to me. Whatever will get the ball rolling...

Which car hire firms supply for family sized cars please?

If your talking of car RENTAL firms, try Enterprise or Avis.
Both can supply full size cars and Avis has sat radio in many.

Avis has XM, the inferior satellite radio service.

Don't you know they can track you with those satellites? If they want to
track me,let them.To the Goodwill store on Oak Circle mostly every
aftenoon,to the wal mart store at the intersection of Highway 18 and
Greenway Drive about once a week for beer and grub,(going there
tomorrow) to my old buddy and his wife's home on a certain Circle
(yes, part of the name of the street they live on is Circle) that runs
off of Harper Street in Richland,Mississippi, once in a while. It's like a
set routine I have, the same o same o all the time.I went to Cowboy
Maloney's Electric City electronics and appliances store on Ellis Ave
this morning to buy a new 18,000 BTU window unit airconditioner ($388.00
plus Mississippi RIPP OFF state sales taxes) because my old thirty five
year old window unit airconditioner finally bit the dust.(it got up to
about 93 degrees in my house without my airconditioner, electric fans do
come in handy) It is an extremly dull and boring routine I have and that
is the way I like it too.

This is rec.radio.shortwave. Please post this to another, more
appropriate newsgroup.

Steve

This Newsgroup is totally appropriate. The satellite channels include
International broadcasters.
