Default using the Degen 31 active antenna...

Anyone else tried one of these? Can someone explain what the dial on the
side of the battery/control unit does? It obviously sharpens the
reception but I'm curious what exactly it does and if I'm using it
right. Rolling the dial back and forth over a station makes the
reception clearer. It's that simple? Any other tips for use?

Yea, it's a real miracle of science, isn't it? ;~) The dial on the side
matches it to the frequency you have the radio tuned to. It is VERY touchy
at the bottom end of the spectrum. Less so at the upper end but touchy,
nonetheless. Don't expect much from it. It is a step up from the external
wire antenna that comes with most new Chinese radio. For the price, you
can't go wrong but the Sony ANLP-1 is much better. The Wellbrooke is
supposed to be the "Holy Grail" but it's cost is up there with the price of
a good used tabletop receiver...

Dear "Paul"
One can learn a great deal about remotely tuned loop antennas by reading
Sony's US patent 6,054,965.

It may well be that the Degen uses some of the same concepts as those
found in the Sony patent.
