Mother nature's way of making negative feedback. Kill the refineries, lessen the greenhouse emissions, fewer hurricanes. |

There have been far worse hurricanes in recent years that covered the same area. Though there is always the potential for an off-shore platform to suffer some kind of structural failure for a variety of reasons, there's nothing to indicate this particular storm spells "doom" for any of them. Storm winds already at 160 MPH (knots?), making it a category 5, and it is expected to gain strength before it hits landfall. Some estimates are for 195 MPH winds.. worst storm to hit the Gulf coast since Camille (we left Corpus Christi just before Camille leveled our whole neighborhood, which was just two blocks from the beach) Corpus Christi? Camille hit Long Beach, Mississippi then tracked up to Virginia. -- Stinger |

Now that the rain forests have been turned into cattle ranches we get no CO2 sink, plus added methane. Enjoy. Didnt know there were rain forests by Mt. St. Helens. Yep, sure are. The Northwest has a lot of rainforest (at least west of the Blue Mountains) in Oregon and Washington. This includes the Olympic National Forest area around Mt. St. Helens. Average of 184 days with rain in that part of the country, and over 40" of rain annually (some areas much more, some a little less). |
