Default What radio to buy in the UK

I'm an old DXer who has been thinking of getting back into it in recent years.
I used to live in the US, as most people in this ng do. However, I've been in
the UK for the past 12 years and am likely to stay here.

What I'm looking for is a good SW radio available in the UK that will give me
the same kind of quality that, say, the Sony 2010 did. I had one of these when
I moved here; however, it's given up the ghost and I suspect that it's
unrepairable by now and am not minded to try.

So, any suggestions? Remember, I'm in the UK so suggestions for radios
available in the US probably won't work for me.

I used to be very active in many of the old radio clubs in the US and some may
remember my name. However, with all the noise in this ng, it'll be a wonder if
anyone can actually read this post.

Well, I think the Sony 2010 still is the most impressive portable of all
time.
The likelihood is that all that is wrong with it are a couple of front end
FET's blown.
It's well worth trying to repair.
You have some top class radio outfits in the UK:
Waters & Stanton http://www.wsplc.com/ who have a very comprehensive
website.
Martin Lynch
Haydon Communications and a couple of others.
A search through some of the UK magazines like Short Wave Listener, Radio
Active, Short Wave Magazine and others
may reveal further leads.
They have experts who will offer you good advice.
I would think a Sony 7600GR would be a good replacement for a 2010 if you
can't get it fixed, which you should try first.

I was in J. Birketts old style surplus shop at Lincoln the other day and he
had a second hand Yeasu FRG 7000 in there, I had one some time ago and wish
I had'nt parted with it. excellent rx. He also had several more such as
JRC....Frg 7..etc....well worth a look as he is not over the top with his
prices. ( Johns tel: 01522-520767 )

Maybe somebody will post the address and phone number of the Shortwave
Shop (I think that's it,the Wellbrook antennas Mr.Adkins builds) in
U.K.and ask somebody there if they know of any good leads on some good
Shortwave Radios.I think it is a good place to start.

Thanks for your advice. I have looked at Waters & Stanton and, aside from the
fact that the website is verrrrrrrry slow, it looks good. I suspect they will
repair too.
