Good Radio Shack and Antenna Grounding - Something To Think About !
JRUing,
Good Radio Shack and Antenna Grounding - Something To Think About ! http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Shortw...a/message/5922 Well this is one of those YMMV things sometimes. Every Shortwave Listener (SWL) Antenna that I have build and installed using the Low Noise design concepts made popular by John Doty has at least show an Improvement in the RF Signal Quality : A 'few' had only a slight improvement; most had a maked inprovement; some had a very great improvement. ABOUT - The "Low Noise" Antenna design concepts popularived by John Doty http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Shortw...a/message/5178 Going from a simple Longwire Antenna to a Wire Antenna Element connected to a remotely Grounded Matching Transformer connected to a Coax Cable Feed-in-Line has consistantly work for me and produced better Shortwave Listening (SWL) Results - Always - But Hey That Me :o) ~ RHF However, 'if' your radios are plugged into the House's AC Electrical Power System : Then the RF signal is coming down that Long Wire Antenna from the OutSide and into your House (Home Sweet Home) and is connected to the External Antenna Input of your Radio/Receiver. This External Antenna Input of your Radio/Receiver has an internal circuit designed to be an RF Circuit "PATH" for the External Antenna's RF Signal. Through the Radio/Receiver the small RF Signal Current is flowing around the Radio/Receiver's Circuitry and then eventually to the AC Power Cord and down into the Ground Potential of your House's Electrical Power System : That is "IF" you have no other Ground Connections (Systems) to your Radio/Receivers that present an easier current "Path' for the RF Signal Potential to Flow-To ! TBL - Opposites Do Attract {+ to -} and Current Will Flow ! From what you say - I would say that you have a very good House Electrical Power System and a relatively low noise electrical environment. The only problem becomes when one day there is a nearby Lightning Strike and the Voltage from (Current in) your Antenna down to your Household Ground via your Radio / Receivers is not 'small' but rather "LARGE". GOOD RADIO SHACK AND ANTENNA GROUNDING MAY NOT ALWAYS IMPROVE YOUR SIGNAL AND RADIO RECECPTION - - - - - - BUT IT IS ALWAYS THE SAFE THING TO DO - JUST DO IT ! now... there is something to think about ~ RHF |
