I'm surprised. WLS was frequently weak, noisy signal for me when I was
in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. I've been told they have a bad
grounding system at their antenna and are too cheap to fix it.



When I was working downstate, WLS renovated their transmitter/tower
facility and blew into town like the tower was in the back yard. Less
than a year later I was working in Milwaukee and the signal would fade
early, noisy by Waukegan, difficult by Racine and by Milwaukee it was
virtually gone. This isn't a new condition. As much as 20 years earlier,
WLS wasn't well received in the north suburbs. In fact, it was tough to
receive in River Forest at my grandfather's house.

Today, WLS is tough to receive at my place near the Wisconsin line.
So, the problem isn't related to any hardware failure, or deficiency,
but more likely terrain, ground conductivity, and very high noise
sources between Tinley Park and the north burbs.
